Behind the Scenes of Imperial Artisanat: How Our Moroccan Craftsmanship Comes to Life

As a craftsman and manufacturer, I am often asked: “Where does this piece come from? How is it made?”

Behind every screen, behind every order shipped from our Imperial Artisanat website, there is a very real world: our workshops, the sound of tools, the scent of raw wood and dried palm leaves, and above all, the precise hands of our artisans.

Today, I wanted to take you behind the scenes of our work and tell you how we bring to life the furniture and decorative objects that enhance your interiors.

1. The Art of Raw Materials: Tradition and High Standards

At the heart of Moroccan craftsmanship lies the raw material. At Imperial Artisanat, we select only materials that reflect the beauty and authenticity of nature:

Wood: Whether it is olive wood, cedar, or robust local wood species, each piece of timber is carefully selected for its grain and strength.

Natural fibers: Raffia, wicker, rattan, and palm leaves, harvested and prepared using traditional methods passed down through generations.

Metal and brass: Hand-worked and engraved to create the unique interplay of light that defines our lighting designs.

Clay and leather: Shaped on the potter’s wheel or hand-stitched by our partner leather craftsmen.

Working with these materials requires time, patience, and expertise that cannot simply be learned from books, but is passed down from one generation to the next.

2. 100% Handmade vs. Semi-Handmade: Our Manufacturing Approach

To meet the expectations of our customers — from private clients seeking authenticity to demanding professional buyers — we combine two approaches in our workshops:

100% Handmade

This is the pure soul of our craft.

From the first cut to the final finish, every basket, crochet pendant light, and raffia lampshade is entirely handmade.

This is what makes each piece unique: slight variations that are proof that a human being has put their heart and skill into its creation.

Semi-Handmade

For certain larger pieces of furniture, such as furniture structures, tables, or large armchairs, we combine the strength of technically manufactured structures with 100% handcrafted coverings and weaving.

This method allows us to guarantee excellent strength and durability — essential for everyday or professional use — while preserving the charm and aesthetic appeal of handmade craftsmanship.

3. From the Moroccan Workshop to Your Home

Manufacturing directly as artisans also means making a commitment: a commitment to ethical production without unnecessary intermediaries.

When you purchase from Imperial Artisanat, you directly support local artisan families, contribute to the economy of our region, and help preserve a valuable cultural heritage.

Every piece of furniture, lighting fixture, and accessory that leaves our workshop carries a part of our story.

We put just as much care into creating a custom piece for an architect as we do into weaving a light fixture for a private client’s living room.

The Invitation Is Open

Having a handcrafted piece of furniture or a decorative object in your home is not simply about decorating your space.

It means inviting a story, warmth, and soul into your surroundings.

Explore our collection at Imperial Artisanat and discover the result of our daily work.

And if you have a specific project, need custom-made furniture, or have an interior design idea, talk to us. We are here to bring it to life and craft it for you with our own hands.
